Below are real DHA practice MCQs from our Q&A bank. Each comes with an answer and explanation — just like the full bank.

Q1. The therapeutic serum digoxin level is:

    1. 0.1–0.5 ng/mL
    2. 0.5–2.0 ng/mLCorrect
    3. 2.5–4.0 ng/mL
    4. 4.0–6.0 ng/mL

Explanation: 0.5–2.0 ng/mL is therapeutic. Above 2.0 ng/mL = toxicity risk (nausea, visual halos, arrhythmias).

Q2. Which finding requires IMMEDIATE intervention in a patient receiving a blood transfusion?

    1. Slight rise in temperature after 2 hours
    2. Pink-tinged urine within 15 minutesCorrect
    3. Mild itching at IV site
    4. Anxiety about procedure

Explanation: Pink-tinged urine indicates hemolytic reaction — STOP transfusion immediately and notify physician.

Q3. A nurse is teaching a patient about warfarin therapy. The patient should AVOID which food?

    1. Citrus fruits
    2. Dairy products
    3. Green leafy vegetablesCorrect
    4. Whole grains

Explanation: Green leafy vegetables are high in vitamin K, which antagonizes warfarin's anticoagulant effect.

Q4. The MOST important nursing intervention for a patient with COPD is to:

    1. Restrict fluid intake
    2. Administer high-flow oxygen
    3. Position semi-Fowler's with pursed-lip breathingCorrect
    4. Encourage bed rest

Explanation: Semi-Fowler's and pursed-lip breathing improve ventilation. High-flow O₂ can suppress hypoxic drive in COPD.

Q5. A pediatric patient weighs 22 lbs. Order: 15 mg/kg q6h. How many mg per dose?

    1. 75 mg
    2. 100 mg
    3. 150 mgCorrect
    4. 330 mg

    Explanation: 22 lb ÷ 2.2 = 10 kg. 10 kg × 15 mg = 150 mg per dose.

DHA Q&A Bank — Question Format & Coverage

The DHA exam itself is 150 single-best-answer MCQs delivered in 180 minutes by Prometric under the authority of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Every question in the Phoenix RN DHA Q&A bank uses the same format: a short clinical stem, four options and one best answer, with a written explanation that references the underlying rationale rather than repeating the answer choice.

The 6,000+ questions in the bank are tagged to the DHA syllabus in the same proportions Prometric uses on the live paper. That means when you practise, your mix looks like this:

    • Medical-Surgical Nursing — 30% of the bank, covering Cardiovascular disorders, Respiratory & ventilation, GI & hepatobiliary and more.
    • Pharmacology & Drug Calc — 15% of the bank, covering Weight-based dosing, IV drip rates, Anticoagulants and more.
    • Fundamentals of Nursing — 13% of the bank, covering Aseptic technique, Standard precautions, Bedside handover (SBAR) and more.
    • Maternal & Newborn Health — 10% of the bank, covering Labour stages, Postpartum haemorrhage, Gestational diabetes and more.
    • Paediatric Nursing — 10% of the bank, covering Fever & dehydration in under-5s, Asthma exacerbation, UAE immunisation schedule and more.
    • Mental Health Nursing — 8% of the bank, covering Depression screening, Postpartum blues vs psychosis, De-escalation and more.
    • Community & Health Promotion — 7% of the bank, covering Dubai health strategy, Chronic disease clinics, Diabetes & obesity programmes.
    • Professionalism, Ethics & Law — 7% of the bank, covering DHA scope of practice, Informed consent under UAE law, Confidentiality (PDPL) and more.

    Most-Recalled DHA Question Themes

Phoenix RN debriefs DHA candidates after every attempt and feeds the recall back into the Q&A bank. The themes that show up most often on recent DHA papers are grouped below — expect two or three MCQs from each in a typical sitting.

    Cardiovascular

    • ACS first-line management
    • Nitroglycerin patient teaching
    • Heart-failure fluid restriction

    Endocrine

    • Insulin sliding scale
    • DKA vs HHS differentiation
    • Sick-day rules

    Infection Control

    • Isolation precautions per pathogen
    • Needle-stick post-exposure protocol

    Maternal

    • Fundal massage sequence
    • Magnesium sulfate toxicity signs

How to Drill the DHA Q&A Bank

    1. Start topic-wise, not random. Drill medical-surgical first (it is 30% of the paper), then pharmacology, then the remaining domains in weight order.
    2. Aim for 50 questions a day for six weeks. That covers the entire bank twice — the second pass is where retention actually forms.
    3. Read the explanation for every question, including the ones you got right. On the DHA paper, distractors are often "almost right" — knowing why they are wrong is what earns the mark.
    4. Bookmark every question you get wrong. Two days before your date, review only the bookmarks. Candidates who do this consistently score 10–15 percentage points higher than candidates who repeat the whole bank.
    5. Once you sustain 75%+ topic-wise, switch to full-length timed mocks to build the 3-hour stamina a full paper demands.
